Whitney Court

Overlooking the River Wye to the Black Mountains beyond, Whitney Court is a spectacular Edwardian country manor house set in a 1,000-acre estate.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens and ancient woodland, it stands sentinel over broad, tumbling terraces which sweep down to the river below — the perfect setting for your vacation or special occassion.

Get your whole family together and rebuild your ties. Have a hen party that you will never, ever forget. Or come with friends to enjoy the eclectic grandeur, extraordinary views, unspoilt nature and great local food.

The area? This is Tolkien country. You may not spot a hobbit, but you can take in the centuries-old landscape, leafy lanes, winding river and wonderful old inns which inspired the “Shire.”

The Court is the centrepiece of a 1,000-acre private Estate that includes gardens, meadows, farms, ancient woodlands and the extraordinary River Wye which edges our property. We have sporting opportunities but they no longer include hunting our extraordinary wildife. Instead we offer catch-and-release salmon fishing, bird-watching, clay-pigeon shooting, archery, badmington, croquet, table tennis, and dozens of miles of walks and riding — and that is just on the Estate. There is also canoeing and kayaking on the Wye; hiking and pony trekking through stunning moors, bucolic valleys and the nearby Brecon Beacons National Park; exploring the many castles and black-and-white villages in the area; and, for the truly intrepid, hang gliding off Hay Bluff (bring your own kit).

If you have horses, we can provide stabling (there is an extra charge; please book well in advance). Nearby there are more bridleways, quiet lanes and upland riding than you could explore in a lifetime.
